Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
I have been doing Life Coaching on a non-profit volunteer basis for about 10 years. I felt I wanted to do this professionally and became Certified and opened my practice in October of 2016.
What is your primary product or service?
I offer Life Coaching with a specialty in Transition coaching. I help people navigate through changes in their lives. This ranges from loss of a loved one to job change to empty nesters seeking to reinvent themselves.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I have worked in the non-profit world as a volunteer including doing work as a Life Skills teacher at the Kane County Adult Corrections Center, a mentor at the Illinois Youth Center, and a board member of a non-profit group called Chris Walk Against Substance Abuse.
In December of 2015 I lost my husband to cancer and became very interested in how I was going to transition my own life from being a wife to a widower. I joined a grief share group and am now a co-facilitator of that group. As I was looking for help in my own situation I realized there was a need for Christ Centered life coaches to help people with all those hard changes they make in their lives.
That led me to become a Certified Life Coach and open my own business.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
My practice is Christ Centered. I believe that God guides our lives so every session I hold starts and ends with prayer for God's guidance on the life of my client.
I am also different because I specialize in helping those that are facing change in their lives. Change is inevitable but its how we respond that moves us forward or holds us back. I like to help my clients look forward and see a happier future.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I have one practice but there are several other coaches that will be joining my group in the upcoming months.
Provide detailed directions to your location
My business is conducted in person and via the phone or skype. My clients are very busy people and so we meet the the first time at a mutual place such as a coffee shop. After that we have weekly phone or skype calls and emails.
What type of payments do you accept?
I accept checks, pay pay and of course cash.
Which areas do you service?
I serve Kane and DuPage counties primarily although I can do phone coaching anywhere my clients are at.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I am the owner of my business
What are your hours of operation?
I can work with clients to fit their schedules, most of which want evening or weekend appointments.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
That I am great listener. This is a skill that takes practice and I have worked hard to learn to listen to what my client needs before I talk A good coach listens 80% of the time and talks 20%.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
I use Jeremiah 29:13 at my life verse. This verse has helped me in my journey so many times.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11) NIV
